The Halliwell Surgery
This is a small practice with 3 partners offering a personal/family approach to general practice. Whilst valuing the benefits of being a small unit (intimate, continuing knowledge of patients and their families, good communication within a small team) we work closely with the wider Primary Health Care Team and have links with other practices. We are committed to training. We work from new premises just to the north of the centre of Bolton.
Training
The Registrar is fully involved with the clinical work of the Practice and it is through this work that much of the training takes place. There are opportunities to share surgeries/visits with the Trainer and discuss situations as they arise with the partners. More formal training is provided by a 2 hour tutorial each week based on the needs of the Registrar rather than following a rigid curriculum.
We aim to complement the training the Registrar has already received and will get from the local Day Release Course.
Whilst there is wide clinical experience for the Registrar, there is also ample time for study and preparation for Summative Assessment and the MRCGP examination, which we encourage.

Computerisation
The Pratice is fully computerised, no longer using written records. We receive pathology results by computer links to the laboratory. There is NHS Net and Internet access from each desktop.
On Call
One evening each week and one weekend in six. We use the Deputising Service for evening, night time and weekend cover. Training in out of hours work is at the local out of hours centre with Trainer or partner.
If you are interested in the Practice, or just want some further information, contact Geoff McLardy (or if not immediately available - Sylvia Sangster, Practice Manager), or perhaps you would like to talk to present or previous Registrars; we could provide the relevant details.
